Shim plates
Calibrated plates instead of improvised shims
Precisely calibrated shim plates are a key element in the precision alignment of electric motors and other rotating machines. They are made of high-grade stainless steel that resists corrosion and high pressures, preventing deformation under heavy loads. The standardised U shape allows plates to be inserted and removed under the motor feet without fully removing the fastening bolts.
Every plate is permanently marked with its thickness, which makes selecting the required combination for ideal shaft coaxiality fast and accurate. Using calibrated shim plates instead of improvised material substantially reduces the risk of soft foot and the resulting vibration that shortens the life of bearings and couplings. They are available in a range of standard dimensions and thicknesses, packed in practical kits for field maintenance.
